What do white South Africans think of Annelie Botes’ statements?
Do you share her sentiments? If so what is your reason (still crime, the government, etc.?)?
A female Afrikaans author who said that she does not like black people. They scare her. She does not understand them. She believes that black people are violent because of their own incompetence. She plans to move to the UK after her husband retires.
Uhm…ok.
Yes, her statement is quite racist.
She’s one of many who (most probably) never had true interaction with black people and therefore made her own assumptions. She seems quite naive and gets paranoid when she hears/ read about violent situations where black people were involved.
She doesn’t understand them, because she doesn’t want to.
Conclusion…she lives in her own ‘comfort zone’ created by her own assumptions and hear say.
I served in the SANDF and worked at a few places where black people were/ are either my superiors, peers and/or underlings. Her statement is unfounded.
However, there is a general stigma that only black and colored people are involved in crime, but there are quite a few whites in the slammers as well…they won’t be there if they are innocent, would they?
