Surprise Her By Gifting Cultured Freshwater White Pearl Earrings
Apart from diamond, no other precious material has ignited as much passion as pearl has. Gold can seem a little too brash, platinum lacks the romance, and diamonds are out of reach if you are struggling with two jobs and still not making enough to pay your utility bills. Cultured freshwater pearls are classy. A pair of freshwater pearl earrings will go with any dress, any pair of shoes, and are ideal for every occasion from a formal dinner party to weddings and chic luncheons. Even if you don’t know much about women’s fashion, you cannot go wrong with pearls. While larger freshwater pearl necklaces and bracelets are expensive, a small pair of earrings is affordable as well as elegant.
A Little Bit About Freshwater Pearls…
Freshwater pearls are produced by mussels, unlike pearls produced in the sea by oysters. When a foreign material is introduced in the mussel, it layers it with nacre to protect itself. Pearl growers introduce nacre tissue in the mussel so that the resulting pearl has no foreign material in it.
Freshwater pearls are produced by deliberately introducing a piece of nacre tissue in the mussel. So they cannot be termed “natural” pearls in the strictest sense of the word. However, today, a large percentage of even saltwater pearls are produced by artificially inducing a piece of foreign tissue in the oyster.
Finding The Right Jewelry
You can start your search online. Many online stores sell white pearls either loose or set in jewelry. A pair of drop earrings made from white pearl set with silver studs costs only around $50. Apart from drop earrings, you can also purchase stud and clip on earrings made of pearl. They don’t cost too much either.
Japan was once the leading producer of freshwater white pearls. While these pearls, known as Biwa pearls, are not as common in the US market today as they were in the 30 years between 1940 and 1970, you can still search online shops for them. The Chinese freshwater pearls, once the poor cousin to Biwa pearls, are today cheaper and as high quality as the Japanese pearls. Today, the choices are unlimited, so everyone can afford to buy these splendid gems.
