Aquarium Sand?
hello, I was hoping someone could clear up a bit of confusion regarding Aqua sand. I have 2 freshwater tanks and are currently in the process of setting up a third. For this one i was hoping to use white sand. I have seen multiple sites selling white freshwater “cichlid” sand all claiming to maintain the Ph for these and other types fish. What they dont tell you, is what that Ph level is. I was hoping that someone could positively and assuredly tell me if these sands are safe for guppies,Endlers,cory cats,pleco,platy,etc. as these community fish are the ones i love. Thanks for your help everyone.

P.S. Just wanted to throw it out there, that i am aware of level of diffuculty and know what it will take to maintain this type of tank. My concern is the effect it will have on my fish. Thanks again everyone.

i have a feeling the cichlid sand is not the one you want unless you are keeping african cichlids who need a pH over 8.0. sand that is pure white is often this kind best to triple check the make before purchase.
you want probably regular sand, made of stone that is passive and does not effect pH in any way shape or form! i got my sand second hand from my LFS so i’m not sure what it would look like in bag form..i found the link below with one make of sands…black sand can really make the colours of fish pop. i have plain old yellowish sand, which means it’s easy to clean because you can see where the dirt is!
