Could the main reason for obesity be caused by a lack of Iodine?
Since Iodine is very important for thyroid function, and of course the thyroid effects your weight? Also, Iodine is a great fat burner. So is it possible that mabe people are net getting enough Iodine? I always make sure I get Sea Salt that has Iodine in it. This nutrient seems to be greatly overlooked in my opinion. Everyone always talks about vitamin c vitamin b 12 ect. But you rarely hear anyone speak about Iodine. Some people with high blood pressure may avoid alot of foods and supplements which contain Iodine. Mabe this could also be why some with high blood pressure are over weight? So what is recommended to people with high blood pressure to make sure they get enough Iodine in their diet? I don’t have high blood pressure, just curious.
Bibi I agree with you! But that does not explain why people who do exercise and take every precaution to lose weight, yet can’t! What about the ones who are trying to lose weight?
In places on the planet where clinical iodine deficiency (as evidenced by goiter, cretinism, etc) is endemic (meaning, more common than not) such as Northern Latin America (Peru, Columbia, etc) The people are not nearly so large as they are here – in fact, they tend to be starving.
Its the fact that we ingest more calories that we need that make people big – not a lack of iodine….
Thyroxin (one of several thyroid hormones) contains iodine, but taking gobs of it does not mean your thyroid is going to produce more….
Doesn’t mean someone is going to lose weight either…
Otherwise people who lived near the coast would have hyperthyroidism out the wah-zoo.
