History Of Akoya Pearls
Akoya pearls are considered as some of the most exquisite types of pearls in existence. Not only are they beautiful pieces of jewellery but they also have a rich history that made them even more wanted by a lot of people, women in particular.
These pearls are cultured inside an akoya oyster which is found predominantly in China and Japan. They are considered as classic pearls because of their lustre and size. They tend to be smaller than most pearls, are of different colors and perfectly round. Akoya pearls are said to be perfect to be made into any kind of jewellery, be it bracelets, necklaces, brooches or earrings.
The process of culturing Akoya pearls was said to be fathered by a Japanese man by the name of Kokichi Mikimoto, and from his genius, the art of culturing these pearls lived on for more than a century. They were first introduced in the 1920’s to the mainstream market of the jewellery business and since then, these pearls have become one of the most admired gemstones all over the world. Although there are some debates regarding Japanese pearls and Chinese pearls and which ones are better, this has not affected the sales of this item as there are so many people who are interested to acquire them regardless of the steep prices.
Pearls are often regarded as the epitome of understated beauty in the world and they will always hold a special place in the hearts of women especially those who realize just how precious they are and the life journey they represent.
