goldfish poo vs goldfish eggs?
FWIW: Googlie eyed gold fish
I have been reading on goldfish answers for an hour. Still confused. Kids got tanks for xmas. 48 hours after set up ~ 2 goldfish a piece were purchased. That was Sat. today is Wed. Both tanks have long strands, just ‘deposited’ after dinner. 3″ plus in length. one anchored to the bottom of a fake plant one anchored to the side of filter return. DD’s brings to mind the sausage hanging at the butchers clearish wrap with rice shaped pinky-brown deposits every so often. DS’s tank has same wrapping with much smaller (uh) small tapioca pearls sized deposits; also the color of a pencil eraser.
Not clear like the pics of eggs I have been looking at. Fits no description of goldfish poo I have read either. (There really is alot of discussion on fish poo on the web… I had no idea)
If it’s poo I’ll just yank it with some chopsticks, if it’s not then what is it?

That’s definitely poo. Eggs will be small clear white spheres that would look like a fish egg. They can also lay long clear strands if for any reason the female reabsorbs the eggs and aborts egglaying.
But at 3 inches and thick, your goldfish is constipated. Yes, it happens to fish, too. The fishy version of a mild laxative is to give them fiber, just like for people. Goldfish should have regular fiber in the form of veggie-based foods at least a few times a week. You can give them cooked green peas (take off the skin first if the fish is small), carrots, green beans, cucumber (take out the seeds and peel them), lettuce, squash, and orange sections. You might have to weight some of these down, I’ve read where one other user here spears them with a fork so they sink.
