Wow a lot of bad info on this one. Yes and a simple way to clean them is to soak them in some water with bleach. This will kill all of the bacteria.
Rinse it well and let air dry for 24 hours. Bleach will evaporate in 24 hours. Sea shells will only start to dissolve at a ph of 6.5 and lower. And it would be very slowly. When this happens it will start to raise your alkalinity and your ph to a point that the shells will stop disolving. This will not have any effect on your fish and only a GOOD effect your tanks water chemistry.
