how can i get this parrot to shut up?

i’m staying at someone’s house this weekend while they’re going on a trip and they have this kind of parrot:

it keeps screaming and talking and it has fresh food water and toys and i shut the door but it’s SOO loud. any suggestions?

Well this is not your bird, so training the parrot may not be very useful. However there are some things you can try:

Talk quietly to the parrot. Sometimes this makes the bird talk more quietly also. Parrots tend to talk in the same volume as their environment.

Put a towel or cage covering over the cage. The parrot could take this as “I need to be quiet now” or “Time for a nap” This could help quiet the parrot.

Ignore the parrot. If the parrot starts being loud and you react by racing over the cage and shouting “Shut up!” the parrot will get even louder, because this is the reaction he wanted from you. Simply walking out of the room while the parrot is yelling, shows him you won’t give him any attention while he’s loud. When he quiets down, praise him and give him treats. This shows him when he’s quiet, he gets what he wants.
