How can I strengthen a magnet?
My wife has a necklace that fastens with a magnetic clasp. Over the past couple of years the magnet has become weaker and now will not hold the necklace on her neck as it soons loosens and falls off. The necklace is made of pearls so she is loathe to risk wearing it.
How can I strengthen the magnetic charge in the clasp?
Using a permanent magnet stroke the clasp a number of times slowly in one direction.
It is inadvisable to rely upon a simple catch, magnetic or otherwise. All valuable necklaces have a secondary safety clasp which gives a protection against loss should the main catch break.
Any jeweller will fit one for a small charge.
