Are White Stretch Marks the Same As Purple Stretch Marks?

What are white stretch marks? Are they the same as purple stretch marks? And how do we get rid of them?

White marks are actually old lines and streaks. They usually develop when the tissue underneath the skin is stretched excessively, usually from rapid growth. This is one reason why many pregnant women develop them on their stomachs. These marks come in different colors, mainly red, purplish and white. Let’s find out what it means to have those that are white or silvery in color.

When the skin starts to segregate from distention, collagen rushes to fill in the minute ‘cracks’ in the skin. Collagen is the major protein that links the skin’s tissues. Initially, stretch marks are not white but instead red or purple. In time, they will start to fade and become white or silvery in color. Basically, a stretch mark is a tear in the skin. Once the stretch mark becomes white, it is in the stage of regeneration.

White stretch mark is just another term for striae distensae alba. It is believed that once a stretch mark is white or silvery in color, there is no way to eliminate the stretch mark. However, not all hope is gone. There are still ways to reduce the overall appearance of the white stretch marks.

Your options in eliminating white these include laser treatment and microdermabrasion. As with all treatments, there is no 100 percent certainty. However, these two treatments can drastically reduce their appearance. To further hasten and improve results, it would be a good idea to pair any one of these treatments with natural topical creams.
