How to care for a baby Acer palmatum seedling (Japanese maple)?
I have this huge japanese maple tree in my garden and i found a little seedling a few days ago.
How should i care for it?

……If it is coming out of the ground, you need to make a circle with a small trowel a couple of inches around the seedling, so that you do not distrub the root too much and leave a little of the original soil around the root. Have a prepared flower pot (not too big) 7/10cm wide about a quarter filled with well drained compost like john Innes seed and cuttings compost, place the seedling into the pot and gently fill around the seedling with mor john innes seedling/cutting compost. Acers like shade, they will burn if put in full sun of the heat of the summer, As this is a young plant, it would be better to give it a good start in the shade. As the seedling grows, plant it up again into another pot in the same manner again, but only put it in 1 to 2 sizes up maximum, if a plant is hsoved straight into a large pot, it can go into shock wither and die, so it is better to increase the size of the pot gradually. Supposedly Acers like ericacious soil/compost but I have friends that have put them in multipurpose compost and they are thriving !!!!!! It would be good to feed the plant with an ericacous feed (ericacious is a low ph, acidic) I would keep it in a pot and keep potting it up until it has reached a couple of feet or so. Also, for its first few winters and any very bad winters, you should wrap it with horticultural fleece in the winter, try to do this before it gets tooo frosty. Acers can be tender. Acers are expensive to buy (I worked in a garden centre)and very very beautiful, they are worth looking after.
