Genuine pearls and fake pearls
Pearl is a precious jewelry and even often called in the several of holy books.
Pearl, previously only used by the nobility as a symbol of power, wealth and honor. Until now, pearls becomes an official jewelry of the members of British royal
Basically, pearl is divided into 2 (two) types of natural pearls and cultivated pearl.
Natural pearls are now beginning to rare so the price is very expensive. The types of pearls are often traded is cultivated pearl such as: Akoya pearls, Tahitian pearls, South Sea Pearl and freshwater pearls are numerous found in Japan and China.
Because the demand of pearls that will be used as accessories is very high, now widely found an imitation pearls which are actually the result of human handmade such as made from ceramic, shell, glass or even plastic.
Imitation pearls are not included on the types of pearls. However, because the manufacture techniques are now so advanced, so that sometimes looks perfectly like genuine pearls. One of the easiest ways to distinguish fake pearls with genuine pearl is to rub it into the tooth. If feels soft, you can bet It is the fake pearl. Meanwhile, when feels sandy and even sometimes feels pain, that’s the original pearl as it relates to the existence of a layer of nacre. Now you can distinguish the genuine pearl jewelry and the fake one.
How to determine the quality of the original and artificial pearls:
1. Sparkle: Sparkle is the most important factor in determining the quality of a pearl.
2. Surface: the condition of pearl surface is the second factor in determining the quality of a pearl. The smoother pearl surface has the higher quality. The clean Pearl means there are no spots, bumps, holes, cracks, spots or wrinkles on the surface.
3. Form: based on the shape, pearls are grouped into 8 categories: round, drop, buttons, oval, semi-round, circle, baroque (irregular) and semi-baroque.
4. Color: the color of each pearl is unique: white, beige, yellow, young, red, silver or black.
5. Size: the size range of pearl is from 1 mm to more than 20 mm.
The most commonly traded size is 7 – 7.5 mm. Pearls with a larger size would have more expensive price.
