Can you suggest some flowering plants for my yard?

I have a few natural areas on my property that has trees and pine straw,no grass.I would like to plant some sorts of flowering plants.Perferably plants that bloom from spring to fall.Also I would like them to come back year after year.Spreading plants are fine and perferable as long as they are not to invasive.There are both sunny and shady locations.Looking for something that does not require a lot of watering or maintenence.The soil is clay type soil.If you can suggest some plants I would be greatful. Thanks.
