Besides the Chow, what dogs have purple/black tongues?
I took in a stray and she seems to have a lot of fox terrier in her from her hair and facial structure. She is blonde in color but has a purple/black tongue…
Ty for the link. I can not see Chow or Sharpei in her at all but her tongue is entirely purple/black. One day when I have an extra $75 to blow (ha ha) I may get that dna testing done, would be interesting.
Many breeds commonly have dark spotting on their tongue; I have seen purebreds, like German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers, with pigment spots on their tongue.
The only two breeds with a solid blue-black colored tongue are the Chow and the Shar Pei. They generally have dark pigmentation in their entire mouth, including the roof of the mouth and the lips.
However, spots of pigment on the tongue do not indicate that they are mixed with those two breeds.
