Seachem Phosguard. Is this a good product to remove green water in my fresh water tank?
the lable reads: “PhosGuard rapidly removes phosphate and silicate from marine and freshwater aquaria. It is highly porous for high capacity and bead-shaped for optimum water flow.”
Yes, it can only help, as long as you realize it must be replaced or will become ineffective.
Instead of money though, it’s best to find out where the real problem lies and correct it. While products like that will help mask the problem, it doesn’t really fix it, so it won’t really go away.
Are you overfeeding? Are you overstocked? Are you lacking filtration? Do you keep the lights on too long or have too much light on the tank? Does the tank get direct sunlight? Any of combination of these things generally lead to these types of problems.
The only time you would need to rely on a product like this is if the phosphates and silicates are already in your tap water, so if you suspect this problem you may want to test the water first, or request a water quality summary from your water source. If the problem is being generated in the tank itself there’s always a better solution then buying cover-ups.
